Let’s take a walk around Beijing, the city of culture and history.

  1. The merging of Ancient and Modern

Beijing has a history of 3000 years old, and has been deemed the only worthy capital city since 800 years ago. The city is occupied with historical architecture such as Summer Palace, Heaven Kingdom, and the Ming Tomb. Besides these, many modern buildings have been constructed, with the Beijing National Stadium (also known as the Bird’s Nest) which was constructed for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Zhonguancun is known as the ‘Silicon Valley’, where Beijing’s high-tech corporations and enterprises are located, and many universities specialising in IT, as well as various commercial centres retailing electronic and digital products.

Beijing is full of historical architecture, districts, and neighbourhoods; from the Great Wall of China, to Tiananmen Square, to the Forbidden City. The streets of Beijing offer a wide variety of activities for you to enjoy; from enjoying a nice cup of Chinese tea at a tea ceremonial, to visiting the National Art Museum, or even going to see famous Chinese acrobatics and theatre.   1. Enjoy Beijing’s Roast Duck, then go out and party!

As China’s capital, Beijing attracts a lot of foreigners. The vitality of this city is brought to Beijing’s colourful nightlife, with many people hanging out in pubs and clubs. There is also the alternative, with people attending shows or exhibitions, such as The Peking Opera, or Kung Fu events.

But before all this, take a walk to Jiumen Xiaochi (九门小吃) where the taste of Beijing is diverse along the street, highlighting the manifolds of food specialties such as Roast Duck, Jing Jiang Rou Si (shredded pork in Beijing sauce), or Tuckahoe Pie!

  1. Practice your Chinese every day!

The best way to learn a language is to speak and use it every day! Beijing is also known for the city of establishing the Chinese language “Pu Tong Hua”. Start with some common and easier phrases, such as ordering food at a restaurant, or asking how much an item is. Even in the capital, there are still many people whom cannot speak English, therefore a few Chinese lessons would do you good and make things heaps easier!
